KARACHI, Aug 23: Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar has termed construction of Kalabagh dam as a vital and critical issue saying that it can not be solved by an individual or a province alone.

“The lingering problem would be solved by the joint consensus of all four provinces, as any decision taken in this regard would be in the greater interest of the country as well as the province,” he said.

The chief minister stated this during his visit to the residence of Sindh Population Welfare Minister Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh on Saturday.

Sindh Minister for Mines and Mineral Development Osman Malkani, PML-Q leader Maqbool Sheikh, and Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat were also present on the occasion.

Talking to newsmen, the chief minister termed the news about the change of government in the province baseless, and claimed that prior to his taking charge as chief minister, number of candidates were aspiring for the prestigious slot.

“However, in this scenario when government is working satisfactorily and discharging its responsibilities with dedication and in cooperation with other allies, there seems no exigency to change the government,” he added.

He brushed aside the speculations about existence of any differences among coalition partners of the provincial government.

He added that complete harmony and identical views existed among six parties, which were part of provincial government.

About his visit to the residence of SDA leader Imtiaz Shaikh, the chief minister pointed out that his house was not a new place for him, as hitherto he had been a regular visitor to the place.

“Leaving aside smaller differences, we are all committed to serve for the cause of people of Sindh and alleviate their miseries and hardships,” he remarked.

Referring to the removal of provincial minister, Mohammad Hussain, the chief minister termed it an internal issue of Mutahhida Qaumi Movement and refused to make any comment on the same.

Later, Mr Imtiaz Shaikh said that the meeting continued for an hour in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, as he did not have any difference with the chief minister.

He, however, pointed out that some elements of the National Alliance had some reservations against the chief minister and in order to sort out their wrangling, a meeting would be held at Chief Minister House here on Saturday, during which all issues would come under discussion.—PPI
