ISLAMABAD: Gen Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter, Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the UK Army, on Friday acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s achievements in the fight against terrorism and continued efforts for peace and stability in the region.

During his meeting with Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters, the UK general — who has arrived here on a two-day official visit — said that his country greatly appreciated Pakistan’s sacrifices as a frontline state against war on terror.

Matters of mutual interest, including strengthening of bilateral security and defence cooperation between the two armies, were discussed during the meeting.

Earlier on arrival at the GHQ, he laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honour to the visiting dignitary. The visiting general addressed participants of a national security and war course later in the day.

A military official said the visiting dignitary was briefed on continued violations of ceasefire by India on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, the reign of terror let loose by India in held Kashmir and Pakistan’s efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan and the region.
