ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Board of Investment (BoI) have stressed the need of maintaining close collaboration with each other for attracting prospective investors in the telecom sector.

This was decided by PTA chairman Shahzada Alam Malik and BoI chairman Waseem Haqqie in a meeting here on Saturday.

The meeting noted that telecommunication being the most vibrant sector of the economy offered lucrative incentives to the investors after the oil and gas sector and as such there was great scope of tremendous investment by the intending investors to enter the telecom market.

The meeting decided that deregulation cell established at the PTA should constantly remain in touch with the BoI and apprise it of the progress made by the PTA in implementing the telecom deregulation policy.

The meeting identified areas of cooperation between the PTA and the BoI and discussed measures to remove bottlenecks that could hinder the flow of investment in the deregulated environment.—APP
