PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau has authorised an inquiry against University of Swat for ignoring the recommendations of the special evaluation committee for identification of suitable land for its establishment.

The decision was made at a meeting of the NAB’s regional board meeting (RBM) chaired by retired Brig Farooq Naser Awan, Director General NAB (KP), according to a statement issued here on Friday.

The meeting was attended by directors, additional directors, case officers, senior legal consultants and other concerned officers.

It was stated that the district officer revenue, Swat, obtained no approval from the syndicate or senate of the university thus, funds for construction of the varsity to the tune of Rs127 million were lapsed.

The meeting also approved a second inquiry against officers of the Nowshera Medical College regarding corruption and corrupt practices.

It was stated that the concerned officials were allegedly involved in illegal appointments of employees, whose degrees and experience certificates were prima facie fake. The college officials also embezzled Rs400 million in procurement of medical equipment.
