BUNER: At least 27 suspected miscreants and their facilitators have been arrested and a big cache of arms seized in police actions in parts of the district.

District police officer Mohammad Irshad said this while addressing a press conference at his office in Daggar on Thursday.

He said that the police launched the operation in the jurisdictions of Pir Baba, Daggar, Gagra and Nawagai police stations. He claimed that the arrested persons had confessed that they worked as facilitators of miscreants. They also pointed out hideouts in Gokand valley where the miscreants had dumped weapons, he added.

The seized arms included 17 Kalashnikovs, 30 pistols, six rifles, 12 guns, one hand grenade, two Kalakovs and over 1,000 bullets.

He hoped that during interrogation the detainees would make more disclosers about the names and whereabouts of miscreants. He said that foolproof security arrangements had been made for the three-day Shaheeda Sar Cultural Festival and over 500 personnel were deputed on the relevant routes.
