LAHORE: Members of the Wapda cricket team which won the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy last season, had a meeting with their chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain just day before the start of the new first-class season.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt will be leading Wapda for the second season running after his twin centuries in the drawn final against HBL played a key role in his team’s success.

During Monday’s meeting at the Wapda House, Wapda chairman appreciated the cricket team for excellent show that enabled it to annex their maiden Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The chairman expressed the hope that Wapda will perform to their full potential to retain the title, while announcing cash prizes for the team members.

Terming cricket as passion and identity of Pakistan, the Wapda chairman asserted that sports alone can be the catalyst and the tool to overcome our national issues ranging from terrorism, illiteracy to fragile economy and can be a source of national harmony.

He directed the players to show high quality character, commitment and make hard work their focus both and on and off playing field.

During their interaction with the chairman, the cricketers thanked him for his patronage for the betterment of sports and the players, the cricketers in particular.
