A fire erupted on Sunday morning at a building in Karachi's Boat Basin area which engulfed popular eateries located on the ground floor of the building, however, no loss of life was reported.

The officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation informed Dawn that the cause of fire and the volume of losses are yet to be ascertained.

The fire engulfed three floors of the 14-storey building, said the officials, adding that eight vehicles of the fire brigade department of KMC participated in the hours-long operation after which the firefighters managed to control the blaze.

The eateries that were gutted reportedly include outlets of Nando's and Pizza Hut.

A number of fires of varying intensity have broken out in the metropolis over the past few weeks affecting multistorey buildings as well as industrial areas.
