KARACHI: Fancied Pakistan suffered their worst-ever defeat when they were thrashed 1-3 by low-ranked Myanmar making an unceremonious exit from the team event of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games at Ashgabat on Friday evening.

The Pakistani trio, that comprised experienced cueists Mohammad Sajjad, Mohammad Bilal and Asjad Iqbal, suffered severe humiliation as they failed to live up to their billing.

Pakistan had a dismal start when their top cueist Asjad suffered 53-62 defeat in the first singles.

Sajjad, who had to be content with a bronze medal in the preceding 6-Reds event, followed suit losing the second singles 28-72.

Trailing 0-2 down, the rejuvenated pair of Asjad and Bilal piled up a break of 89 in the third frame enabling them to reduce the deficit as Myanmar lost 5-89.

But Myanmar cueist replied with a splendid break of 60 against Sajjad to post 67-44 victory in the fourth frame and completes the rout.

The performance of Pakistan in the baize game, particularly, team event, has raised quite a few eyebrows.

Meanwhile, the 15-Reds singles starts on Sunday. Sajjad is drawn to meet Issara Kachaiwong of Thailand while Asjad is pitted against Philippines Basil Alshajjar in the best of seven frames matches.

Result:

Myanmar bt Pakistan 3-1 (62-53, 72-28, 5-89, 67-44).
