KARACHI, Aug 20: Two fishermen drowned into the sea near Cape Montz on Wednesday.

An official of the Emergency Rescue Centre, Hawksbay, told Dawn that nine fishermen in a vessel were busy throwing net in the sea when two of them fell into the rough sea. The fishermen were identified as Malik and Ishaq.

Incharge of the Emergency Centre Zafar Khan said that conditions were not ideal for fishing on Wednesday, as there were strong under currents and possibly the two fishermen could not swim through the strong under currents.

Quoting the other fishermen, who survived the incident, Mr Zafar said that the fishing boat got disbalanced due to the strong current resulting in the incident.

The fishermen, who survived, informed the Emergency Rescue Centre Hawksbay about the incident. The rescuers tried to fish out the bodies but in vain.

ENCOUNTER: Police shot dead an alleged bandit in, what they described, an encounter with armed men on I.I. Chundrigar Road.

Police said that two bandits barged into an office of international cargo management at the seventh floor of the Uni Centre on Wednesday.

According to the police, the bandits held the staff hostage at gunpoint while company’s owner Ziaul Haq Babar tried to pose resistance. One of the bandit opened fire, which injured his accomplice. Both bandits tried to escape.

Meanwhile, Madadgar-15 was informed about the incident and the area police chased the fleeing bandits. In an encounter, which took place on I.I. Chundrigar Road, police injured one of the bandits, who was later identified as Shahid.

However, he died before he could be shifted to the Civil Hospital. The other injured bandit managed to escape from the spot, police added.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in separate accidents on Wednesday.

Police said that Bashiran Begum, 60, was crossing the main Sharifabad Road near ACLC office when she was hit by a yellow cab. She was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The errant vehicle escaped from the spot following the accident, police added.

In Mauripur, a young man died in another accident. Police said that Daraz Khan, 25, a cleaner of the truck was asleep on the top of the truck when he fell down and got crushed beneath the rear wheels of the same vehicle.

Police said that the victim died on the spot, his body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.

DIES: An elderly man, who was wounded by unidentified persons in Shershah on Sunday, died here on Wednesday.

Police said that Shamsuddin, 60, was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he scummed to his wounds at 2am.
