BAHAWALNAGAR: Marot police booked nine suspects for their alleged involvement in the abduction and rape of a 20-year-old woman of Chak 316-HR on Monday.

The complainant woman told police she was at home on Aug 20 when the suspect along with four armed accomplices abducted her and took her to some unidentified place and raped her. She alleged the accused also tortured and threatened her with consequences if she tried to tell anyone about the incident.

To avoid police action, the suspects sent her to Darul Aman from where she went to her house.

Later, panchayat elders prevented her parents from pursuing the case against the suspect and assured them of justice. The elders, however, did nothing to provide her justice at which she along with her parents appeared before the police. Police booked nine suspects and launched investigation.

Also, Mandi Sadiq Ganj police, on the orders of Minchanabad civil court, booked six people for the alleged abduction and rape of a woman on Monday.

The complainant told police that she was on her way to bazaar on July 7 when the suspect with accomplices took her to an unidentified place and raped her.

She told Dawn she was divorced and had been living with her parents along with her four children. She said that she had alerted the police about the incident but in vain at which she filed a petition in the court.

Station House Officer Iftikhar Sohal said that one suspect had been arrested while raids were being conducted for the arrest of others.

CLASH: A man was injured in a clash between teams playing cricket in Mauza Nadir Shah here on Monday.

The clash occurred over argument concerning scores. The injured was identified as Zafar. He was rushed to Bahawalnagar District Headquarters Hospital by Rescue 1122.

Saddar police registered a case against Nasir Ahmed, Ghulam Muhiyuddin and Ahmed on the complaint of Faiz Ahmed, maternal uncle of the injured.
