HYDERABAD, Aug 19: Six people were killed during their sleep when the driver of a stationary oil tanker (LS-9969) started reversing it without checking the rear view mirror as a result of which all were crushed on the spot near the Leghari Hotel, Lunikot, early Tuesday morning.
Those killed were identified as Gullo Shikari, 40, Maula Shikari, 16, Lalo Shikari, 15, Razzaq Shikari, 12, Naseeba Shikari, 10, and Punhal Shikari.
Their bodies were taken to the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. From there they were sent to their native village in Shikari Goth, Hussainabad.
Three family members — Aasi, Shabbi and a one-year-old boy, Arbab — escaped unhurt.
The driver escaped immediately.
MAN KILLED: Three armed men killed a man and injured eight other people in the Sahib Khan Chandio village within the jurisdiction of the Hatri police station late Monday night.
Police said that Mehar, son of Abdullah, was shot dead when he offered resistance to three unidentified armed men who had barged into his house for committing robbery, and added that they also injured eight other family members — Dildar, A. Warayo, Zahid, Dad Bux, his wife, Zubaida, Deedar, Qurban and Shaukat.
A case was registered under section 459, 460 and 34 PPC.
THREE HELD: The Cantonment police have arrested three people including an SDO of the irrigation department for manhandling a lineman of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Saddar sub-division, late Monday night in a state of drunkenness.
Two separate cases have been lodged against three accused and they have been remanded to police custody for two days by the third judicial magistrate on Tuesday.
According to the Cantonment police, Kamran Memon, Zeeshan Memon and Shakir Memon, the SDO of Irrigation, arrived at the Hesco Saddar sub-division to make a complaint about the suspension of power supply in Civil Lines.
Imtiaz Ahmed, the lineman, who is complainant of the case, assured him of rectifying the fault. However, they argued and assaulted Ahmed.
