ISLAMABAD: A 119-strong Pakistan contingent will participate in the fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, slated to be staged in Ashgabat from Sept 17 to 27.

According to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), President Mamnoon Hussain will attend the opening ceremony of the event accompanied by Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Raiz Hussain Prizada and State Minster for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan in the Turkmenistan capital.

The Asian Indoor Games, the first edition of which was held in 2005, is a multi-sport event contested every two years amongst the athletes representing countries from Asia.

The Pakistan contingent at Ashgabat will participate in nine disciplines: athletics, billiards, ju-jitsu, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and best wrestling.

On Wednesday, the PSB will organise a send-off function for the Pakistan contingent.
