CHAKWAL: Police have arrested members of three gangs allegedly involved in car and motorcycle thefts in the district for several months.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Haroon Joiya revealed that 27 motorcycles and three cars were recovered from the alleged gang members.

A team headed by Saddar circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Kazim Ali Naqvi arrested three members of a gang, including the gang leader, who is a resident of the Mohra Thaneel village in Chakwal. The other two suspects are from Sheesh Bagh in Attock and Fatehjang.

Mr Joiya said three cars worth Rs3.2 million were recovered from their possession. He said the same team also arrested five members of another gang, including a Kajli village resident who was the gang leader.

The other four suspects were residents of Millat Chowk in Chakwal city, Purani Sabzi Mandi in Chakwal city and Chak Jhararay, which is in the Dohman police area.

The DPO said: “The members of this gang were involved in motorcycle theft, and we recovered 13 motorcycles from their possession.”

Another team, headed by Talagang DSP Fazal Abbas also arrested four alleged gang members, including the gang leader, who resides in the Sadiqabad village in the Tamman police area.

The other three suspects were from Akwal village and from Jhatla, a locality in Talagang city. Mr Joiya said the third gang was also involved in motorcycle theft, and 14 motorcycles were recovered from the suspects.

All the suspects were sent to judicial lockups.
