KARACHI, Aug 18: Shahab IV trounced four challenges out of five to win the weekly title of Swiss Bridge with a score of 101 V.P on Sunday.

Fourteen teams contested the weekly event at National Stadium. Shahab IV team comprising Shahab Saeed, Nasir Ahmed, Cmdr. Retd. Nuri Pasha and Anwer Kizilbesh, scored 101 Victory Points.

They first defeated ACES 25-3, then surprisingly lost to Sprinters 12-18 but recovered to outclass Jamal for 21-9 V.P. win, defeated 18-12 and completed the engagement securing 25 V.P. against EFU.

Shipyard finished with 96 V.P winning matches. First they 13-17 against MAQ, defeated Rainbow 16-14, Adventures 21-9, Gulshan 21-9

EFU having the services of Hassan Sajjad, Zafar Zaki, Nasir Reza Khan and Azwer Hasan started with deficit score against Rainbow 14-16, and then won next three matches from Fantastic 21-9, Adventures 21-9, Sprinters 19-11 to bow out in the last match against Shahab 5-25 V.P.

Earlier, in the Paris event, twenty-eight pairs were placed equally in two houses. In senior’s section Nasim Aarzoo, Mubashir Puri edged out other contestants scoring 60 percent score.

Hamid Zia for the third time in succession finished runners up with the score of 55.60 followed by Saeed M. Azwer ul Haque 53.89 percent.

In the second section, Shahab Saeed-Azwer Hasan outpointed other pairs with an impressive score of 63.10 percent followed by Asghar Abbas-Faheem 57.14 and Anwer Kemal-Javed Rehman 52.29 percent.—PPI
