KARACHI: Anchorperson Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s television channel expressed fears that he was stopped at the Yangon airport by immigration authorities on Saturday and put under detention.

The chief news officer for Bol News, Faysal Aziz Khan, told Dawn that Mr Hussain had been sent to Myanmar to cover the plight of Rohingya Muslims there.

“[At the airport in Yangon] he was asked about the purpose of his visit and Aamir Liaquat spoke the truth. Since then we have had no contact with him,” Mr Khan said.

He said that Mr Hussain might be deported to Bangkok, where he had boarded the Yangon-bound flight.
