KARACHI: Schools, colleges reopen

Published August 19, 2003

KARACHI, Aug 18: Schools and colleges, both in the public and private sector, reopened after over two-and-a-half month vacations on Monday.

The schools and colleges, which were closed for two-month summer vacations on June 1, were to resume academic activities on Aug 1, but the vacations were extended for another two weeks as per Sindh government’s decision to extend these till Aug 17, in view of heavy rains and floods in the province.

Sources in the city government said that all the schools, except those 24 public and private schools located within the two kilometre radius of the seashore, reopened on Monday and functioned peacefully. A couple of government schools, where relief centres had been established, also opened on Monday as camps had been winded up earlier, added the source.
