SAHIWAL: A man allegedly threw acid on his estranged wife in Mohalla Zafarabad on Friday morning.

Muhammad Rafiq and Najma had got married 28 years ago and had six daughters and a son. A few years ago, the couple developed differences and Najma started living separately in a house in Zafarabad with her children.

Bashir Ahmed, Najma’s father, claimed he tried to settle the differences, but Rafiq refused to reconcile allegedly because of his six daughters. He said Najma made a living by working as a maid in a few houses and had gone to court to claim expenses for her children from her husband.

The court was reportedly close to announcing its verdict in favour of Najma when on Friday Rafiq reached Najma’s house and threw acid on her face.

Witnesses said Rescue 1122 shifted Najma to DHQ teaching hospital where she was being treated. Hospital sources said she received second degree burns on her face, arms and feet. City police registered a first information report and were conducting raids to arrest Rafiq.
