HYDERABAD: Activists of Sindh-based leftist groups paid rich tributes to the late Prof Jamal Naqvi and highlighted his services and contribution at a condolence reference held at Khanabadosh Writers’ Café on Sunday, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The event was organised by Jamal Naqvi Memorial Committee.

The speakers said that the late Naqvi would always be remembered for his contribution and struggle for the democratic rights of citizens and improvement in the lot of downtrodden people.

Dr Jaffar Ahmed, former director of the Pakistan Studies Centre, University of Karachi, said Prof Naqvi organised the Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) in very difficult days. His contribution towards streamlining the party on sound grounds and strengthening Marxist thought could not be forgotten, he said.

Former CPP secretary general Comrade Jam Saqi drew the attention of the audience to their strength and said this reflected Naqvi’s successful running of the party’s affairs.

Prof Dr Imdad Chandio said that since the ’50s to the ’90s, the CPP remained a force that mattered in politics.

Shabir Shar, the vice chairman of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Samina Geti, the daughter of Prof Jamal Naqvi, Dr Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Prof Dr Tauseef Ahmed and Bakhshal Thalho were prominent among the other speakers.
