CHITRAL: On the pattern of Eid Milan party, Chilim Jusht Milan party of Kalash people was held in Bumburate valley here on Saturday for the first time under the auspices of the federal ministry of religious affairs and interfaith harmony.

A cultural show featured songs and dances, while speakers highlighted the importance of Kalash culture.

The ministry’s parliamentary secretary, Khalil George, was the chief guest on the occasion. A large number of Kalash people from all the three valleys attended the function.

Speaking at the function, he claimed the federal government was ensuring to protect the rights of minorities as envisioned by the founder of the nation. He said Kalash formed the most important segment of the minority community in Pakistan, having unique culture and ways of life which had no parallel in any part of the world.

Mr George said the ministry would take special measures to help the Kalash people observe their festivals in a befitting manner as such occasions formed part and parcel of the Kalash religion.

He said the follow-up ceremony of Chilim Jusht, the major festival of Kalash, was aimed at highlighting the religion more vividly and giving the Kalash people a message of the PML-N government that it gave due significance to their culture and had a lot in store for their amelioration.

Mr George said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had a vision for protection of minorities’ rights and saving them from terrorists.
