PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Abid Saeed is set to retire on Friday after 36 years long civil service career.

Mr Saeed, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service cadre, had assumed charge as head of the provincial bureaucracy in October last year, after the provincial government repatriated services of then chief secretary Amajd Ali Khan to the federal government.

Before joining his post in KP, Mr Saeed was serving as the head at the Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas Ministry. Prior to this, he also served for six years in the capacities of secretary and earlier additional secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.

Mr Saeed was currently busy holding farewell meetings with the government functionaries and on Wednesday met the Corps Commander, Peshawar. A farewell dinner in his honor was also scheduled in the night.

According to the procedure of appointment of new chief secretary, the federal government forwards a panel of three officers to the provincial government for consideration for the slot. Sources told this correspondent that the federal and provincial governments had already held consultations on this issue.

“The announcement of new chief secretary is just a matter of time,” a source requesting anonymity said.
