KARACHI: Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua called on Afghan President Dr Ashraf Ghani in Kabul on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and the geostrategic situation in the region.

According to a Radio Pakistan report, the two sides also held delegation-level talks. Ms Janjua led the Pakistani side, while the Afghan deputy foreign minister represented his country.

The two sides discussed “ways and means to enhance the level of mutual trust”.

Quoting a statement issued from the office of President Ghani, Afghan media, however, reported that he had raised security concerns during his meeting with Ms Janjua.

The president also raised the issue of “cross-border shelling and asked the visiting official to share his concerns with her country’s new leadership”.

He stated that Pakistan should take fundamental and practical actions based on an agreement made at a trilateral meeting in London in March.

Referring to terrorism in the region as a shared threat, President Ghani said terrorists should not be differentiated as “good and bad”.
