ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched the second phase of curriculum development of all the disciplines being taught in the public sector universities of the country.

An official statement issued by the HEC said, keeping in view the importance of the role of curriculum in socio-economic and technological development of the country, the commission had launched the next phase of a comprehensive programme of revision of the curricula of all the disciplines being taught at public sector universities and degree awarding institutions of the country.

In this regard, a scheme of curriculum development at the graduate and postgraduate level (Phase-II) was approved at a meeting of Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) of the HEC held recently at the commission campus in Islamabad.

Under the scheme, the HEC has planned to review or revise at least 16 curricula of the disciplines being taught at public sector universities and institutions of higher learning with special focus on social sciences, basic sciences, agriculture sciences, engineering sciences and other emerging disciplines at its Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar centres.

The main objective of the scheme is to improve the quality of educations through developing and updating the curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Under the scheme, about 48 curricula would be revised/updated within a period of three years. The scheme aims at developing a strong infrastructure for the socio-economic development of the country on a par with the international standards.
