RAWALPINDI: Police have stepped up security around important installations of law enforcement agencies and police training institutions in the light of an intelligence report that a five-member terrorist group had reached Rawalpindi district and was likely to strike against the law enforcement agencies.
According to sources, the divisional police chiefs have been directed to take all possible measures to ensure the safety of police officials/officers and the police establishments.
The threat alert said the terrorist group was residing close to the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) and was likely to move to the surrounding cities.
All important installations, including buildings, hospitals, schools, churches, parks and recreational places, are to be kept under strict vigilance, the IGP directed.
A senior police official told Dawn that security around police establishments, including police training institutions, had further been tightened in the light of the threat alert issued by the IGP office.
He said police officers had also been briefed about the guidelines issued by the authorities concerned.
