KARACHI: Arambagh Club and Askari Alphas conjured up contrasting victories over their opponents on the opening day of the Independence Day basketball tournament at the former’s floodlit court on Saturday evening.
Arambagh Club overcame some anxious moments to post 61-24 victory over the newly-formed Munawwar Abbasi Club in the Group ‘B’ fixture.
But experience finally prevailed after early hiccups when the game was tied 10-all in the first quarter before the winners built up a 28-15 advantage at half time.
Wajeeh was instrumental for the winners with a tally of 16 points. He was ably assisted by Engr Zain-ul-Abedin nine and Jazib eight.
Maaz Yasir scored eight and was followed by Hamza’s four for the losers.
In another low-scoring Group ‘A’ match, Askari Alphas overcome fighting Karachi Colts 32-22 after leading 11-4 at half time.
Riz and Shahmeer shared 18 points amongst
themselves for the winners while Tehamyy and Taimoor contributed nine and five for the losers.
