LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for criticising the judiciary and leading a rally on GT Road.

Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi, who heads an organisation, Khudai Khidmatgar, filed the petition at the SC’s Lahore registry and sought criminal action against the former PM for the “murder” of a young boy who was knocked down by a car in his motorcade on the GT Road.

The petitioner contends that Mr Sharif has been scandalising judges of the Supreme Court under the garb of criticism of Panama Papers’ verdict.

He pleads that the speeches of Mr Sharif amount to contempt of court and the former prime minister is liable to be punished under the law.

The petitioner asks the court to invoke provisions of Article 204 of the Constitution and sentence Nawaz Sharif under contempt of court charges, besides putting him to trial for the “murder” of a young boy by his cavalcade.
