FAISALABAD, Aug 13: Two candidates filed nomination papers with the additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday for the Sept 8 byelection for the post of the District Naib Nazim.

The post of the Naib Nazim fell vacant after the election of Afzal Sahi as an MPA. Later, Mr Sahi was elected speaker of the Punjab Assembly.

Raza Nasarullah Ghuman of the PPP contested the general elections for a national assembly seat but lost. Later, he joined the PML-Q and was nominated a candidate for the post of Naib Nazim by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi during his recent visit to Faisalabad.

Industrialist-cum-agriculturist Mr Ghuman is a newcomer in the political arena.

The other candidate, Allama Tahirul Hasan, is a former city president of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan.

RAIN: The three-hour rain inundated low-lying areas on Wednesday.

Electricity supply to most parts of the city, especially commercial areas, remained suspended hours after the rain.
