PESHAWAR, Aug 13: NWFP chief minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government will continue its struggle for attaining the aims and objectives of Pakistan.

“By the grace of God, we will succeed in implementing the Islamic Shariat, a dream which could not be materialized during the past 56 years,” Mr Durrani said in his message on occasion of Independence Day on Thursday.

The chief minister said in the past rulers sacrificed the objectives of the country for their personal interests. The Muslims of Sub-continent and our forefathers did not sacrifice their lives and properties mere for a piece of land, he added.

It is fortunate that the people had decided to change the situation once for all and voted to power the religious parties. This auspicious day of independence demands the manifestation of the same spirit and vigour as demonstrated by our forefathers during independence moment.

The CM said the passage of Shariat bill in the NWFP Assembly was a first step towards achieving that goal. Mr Durrani hoped the sincere efforts of the MMA for establishing a society free of social discrimination, injustices and a true Islamic society will bear fruit and the collective decision of the people would never fail.

The chief minister in particular appealed to the people of the NWFP to unite and struggle for strengthening the country and make it invincible on the face of grave challenges.
