HYDERABAD, Aug 13: Sacked employees of the Sui Southern Gas Company held a demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday, demanding their reinstatement.

Talking to journalists, SSGC Employees Action Committee leaders Idrees Abbasi, Zulfiqar Abro, Javed Ali Shah and others said the company had defied a Supreme Court order to reinstate its over 700 sacked employees with previous benefits.

They said the company had filed a review petition in the apex court but the filing of the petition did not mean that it was accepted.

They said the company administration was taking refuge behind arguments that the matter was sub judice.

They reminded that the apex court had not granted any stay order against the judgment of the larger bench. They said the company was trying to delay the implementation of the apex court judgment on flimsy grounds.

The employees’ leaders appealed to the chief justice, president, prime minister and the minister for petroleum to ensure that court order was implemented in letter and spirit.

STPP: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, condemned the killing of a woman, allegedly in police firing on a procession, near the Mari gas field in Dharki on Monday.
