ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed Mian Asad Hayauddin as new secretary of the establishment division on Tuesday.

The post fell vacant after Syed Tahir Shahbaz was appointed as federal ombudsman for a period of four years. Mr Shahbaz was elevated to the post after he reached the age of superannuation.

Mr Hayauddin, who is from the Pakistan Administrative Service and a PhD from an American university, was earlier posted as special secretary of the establishment division. He has served on different key positions, including additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and has also been posted abroad.

Meanwhile, the prime minister has also transferred and posted five other senior bureaucrats. Afzal Latif (additional secretary of the climate change division) has been posted as additional secretary of the establishment division while Tahir Hussain (additional secretary of the establishment division) has been posted as additional secretary of the climate change division.

Muhammad Ali Shazad (additional secretary communications) has been posted as additional secretary for National Health Services. Rizwan Ahmed (additional secretary of the establishment division) has been posted as additional secretary of the commerce division.

Hashim Popalzai (additional secretary National Health Services) has been posted as additional secretary of the establishment division.
