QUETTA: A former employee of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) was awarded 11 years in prison and fined Rs5.7 million on Wednesday for acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.

The sentence was awarded by a judge of the Accountability Court of Quetta to Mohammad Hanif, a former divisional accountant of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco).

The judge, Abdul Majeed Nasar, also gave three years to contractor Asim Khan, another accused in the case, and ordered that all his property be confiscated.

The Balochistan National Accountability Bureau completed investigation against Mr Hanif in 2014 and filed a reference of Rs120.52m against him in the court the next year. The bureau found that Mr Hanif, who joined Qesco as a junior clerk, owned two plots in Bahria Town Karachi, a house and a plot in Bahria Town Rawalpindi, two bungalows in Jinnah Town and Toghi Housing Scheme, huge agriculture land in Layyah and four expensive cars.
