Woman dies in road accident

RAWALPINDI, Aug 10: An unidentified woman died in a traffic accident on the Mall near the military hospital on Sunday night.

Police said the woman, aged about 80, was crossing the road when a speeding vehicle knocked her down. She was being taken to the District Headquarters Hospital by some passersby but died on the way. The driver escaped.

ROBBERIES: Unidentified bandits looted thousands of rupees and other valuables and stolen or hijacked four vehicles during the last 24 hours.

Four armed men snatched Rs10,000 from Mr Iqbal and deprived the patients of valuables at an ultrasound clinic of Dr Mohammad Iqbal in the jurisdiction of the New Town police.

Three robbers entered a shop in Kilan Bazaar and looted Rs25,000.

Khalid Qureshi lodged an FIR with the Bunni police that he was on his way to a bank when four robbers intercepted him on Saadpur Road and snatched Rs519,000 from him, police said.

Unidentified burglars entered the house of Abdul Salam in Sadiqabad and made off with Rs5,000 and other household articles.

Burglars also broke into the house of Ahmed Nawaz in Westridge and looted cash (amount unspecified), ornaments and other valuables.

Unidentified burglars deprived Mohammad Hanif in Sadiqabad of Rs200,000, gold ornament and other valuables.

CARJACKING: A car (IDG-1865) of Sajid Saeed was stolen in the jurisdiction of the cantonment police, while Abdul Rehman’s car (IDK-8752) was hijacked in Waris Khan. A motorcycle of Shahzad Rafiq was lifted from westridge, while another was stolen in Civil Lines, police said.
