THE most heated event of the 12th G20 summit in Hamburg was the US pulling itself out of the Paris climate accord. President Trump stated that the accord will weaken the US economy, halt industrialisation and development process, and also lead to job losses in the US.
President Trump has also pulled the US out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which is responsible for 40pc of world trade, and has also threatened to leave the North America Free Trade Agreement. Furthermore, steel imports are now subject to a tax of 25pc, which will largely affect the Chinese, German and Canadian markets.
US emission accounts for one-fifth of global emissions and its ‘business as usual’ approach would raise the earth’s temperature by an additional 0.3 degree by 2100. The growing global isolation of the US and its America-first-policy have put the US image as a global leader in danger.
