The top PML-N leadership on Saturday made it clear that the ruling party will not accept the findings of the joint investigation team (JIT) charged with the Panamagate probe if the statements of a former Qatari prime minister are not made part of the report.
This was said in a press conference jointly addressed by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal.
In the past, Mark Siegel’s statement was recorded in the Benazir Bhutto murder case while he wasn’t in Pakistan, why can the same not be done in the case of the former Qatari PM, argued the defence minister.
The joint press conference focused on the proceedings of the JIT which, has been probing the Sharif family's business dealings abroad. During the press conference, the PML-N ministers repeatedly raised questions on the functioning of the JIT and expressed reservations on the process of investigation.
Khawaja Asif said that those behind repressing the investigation are not doing it based on the law but because "a dice has been rolled against us".
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz have all presented themselves before the joint investigation team.
The defence minister said that the original jurisdiction of investigation of the companies owned by Sharifs lies with the countries where these companies were formed.
"It is interesting that neither Saudi Arabia nor the United Kingdom has raised any questions regarding the companies, but there is a hue and cry about them in Pakistan," Asif said.
Ahsan Iqbal said that PML-N leaders were political people and respected the rule of law, and believed that the right to rule lay with the 220 million people of the country.
He also demanded that the JIT proceedings be made public. "The video of what was asked and answered should be shown to the people," he said.
Railways Minister Saad Rafique said that an impression was given that the Federal Investigation Agency was going to head the JIT, but “recently there have been rumors that the JIT is being controlled by the members of intelligence agencies within the team”.
The minister said that the Sharif family was treated like common thieves and criminals without any proof against them. “But no one is ready to tell us where the theft took place.”
If years-old accounts are audited, many political families would find themselves in trouble, he maintained.
Questioning monetary 'irregularities' by Imran Khan
Khawaja Asif questioned that, "Has anyone asked Imran Khan how his ex-wife sent him money through a cousin? Why was a JIT not formed to probe that matter?"
The defence minister claimed that he had warned in October 2012 that "Imran had invested zakat money in Paris and put it in personal bank accounts."

Nobody in the Pakistan accept JIT report, especially when it's not in their favor. The statement is not needed from Qatari Prince that he stands behind the letters. What actually needed is the money trail and the documents, which are still pending while 2 days left in the closure of JIT. The advance rejection of JIT report is a clear indication that PMLN leadership believes that report will not be in their favor. The prime minister and his children failed to convince JIT about the legality of the property despite several appearances. The honorable supreme court will ask them to write a letter to Panama authorities for the disclosure of property documents. Sounds like an old case!

The judgement of the SC will be completely dependent on JIT report, if JIT report has no evidence of corruption then judgment will be in favor of Nawaz Sharif if not it will be against Nawaz Sharif.

Only SC can accept or reject. Pmln can appeal. There is nothing wrong in asking for Qatari PMs statement to be included. We need to ensure all requirements of justice are met instead of getting emotional. No reason for making the dicision controversial should be provided to any party.

If the prime minister lived in Pakistan most of the year year when the corruption took place then the supreme has the jurisdiction to take up the case. On the Question that unless the statement of the Qatari prince is not taken into account the ruling party will not accept the verdict. The ruling party chairman and its family have accepted that they own the apartments in London which they previously denied has to justify what means they have to purchased these apartment when there sons were below 20 years old when the apartment were purchased and present their evidence and people in court of law to justify what they have been saying.

He(Qatar Prince) can be part of investigation report by coming to Pakistan. That way if he is lying he can be arrested. I remember Memogate when Hussain Haqqani requested apex court to force Mansoor Ejaz to come to Pakistan as witness. Mansoor Ejaz denied citing security issues...while Hussain haqqani made a run for it.

Who are PML N to accept or reject JIT report. It is Supreme Court's prerogative. Furthermore, if JIT members decide not to include Former Qatari PM's statement in their investigation, they will advise Supreme Court of their reason and SC will accordingly pass on instructions.

Qatari prince is Sharif family's witness and therefore it's their responsibility to ensure he testify before the JIT; he has been given a number of options by the JIT but he declined these.
Regarding the acceptance of JIT report; it's for SC judges and not for the Sharif family. Therefore it's immaterial whether the Sharif family accept it or not.

I am sure the PM family must have obtained some money through corruption but we have to proof it. The court wants account from 1974 at the time of industrial nationalization. Every industrial family took out as much money as they could ,you want it called money laundering be it . But everyone did it. Go check Habib groups records how they were about open up so many other banks and industries. I think it was not money laundering . Why wouldn't they save their livelihood after the Government nationalization which was unjust and disastrous for the country.

Is there is a need to comment on JIT when it is going to submit the report. It could be much better if the court should have taken its decision and avoided all the issues. We very often listen the comments that we have files and we can take action and use abusive languages particularly Ishaq Dar. The Ministers escorting the peoples called by JIT. All the external threats come into effect while the Govt is in difficult position. Instead of addressing the core issues they start crying. The mandate which this Govt has got it was absolutely a game plan where none of the party was authorised to made election campaigned. CPEC is the need of China and irrespective of any Govt the projects will carryon. Don't make people fool just wait for the report which in my opinion will be in your favour as you are playing very well. All such irregularities can be addressed very well as you are strong Govt. which not caring Model Town and other JIT reports.

Qatari's letter has no standing in a court of law whether he says something or not. This is based on heresay only. Also what is the proof that the letter came from him. This is all maneuvering to prepare PMLN against the verdict. If Qatari's letter is taken on face value, the money trail is totally lost.

Who are they to accept or reject the JIT report. The Jit was formed by the SC and it will submit its report to them. it is up to the SC to accept it in full. in part or reject it

Before holding the Press Conference these 4 distinguished ministers should have viewed the infamous history about financial scandals detailed on internet, related to Qatari Prince Hamd bin Jassim. It's very sad to note the saners stalwarts of PML(N) are saying incendiaries against the Apex Court in advance although no verdict announced yet. The burden of proof lies on respondents who submitted that Qatari Prince letter,not on JIT still JIT endeavor an extra mile to get the Prince statement. SC will not be impressed by such incendiary or diatribes behaviors, and people of Pakistan deserve to see a verdict which will be followed to decades hereon,making it impossible for the so- called elite politicians ruling the poor innocent masses, exactly like children stories wherein wolf hide under sheep's skin,and sheep remained unaware.

Really? Now criminals can start rejecting the verdict against themselves. This JIT is not against PML (N), it is against Nawaz Sharif and family as individuals. This has nothing to do with government or the party. These so-called are trying to defend what and who? Clearly, shows "the king" and the cronies, more a dynasty than a democracy.

That will show the truth of the matter, and especially when those who were summoned, have no fear of what they said being made public.
It doubt the court will have a say, that as its under investigation, it should not be made public?

Auditing accounts of other politicians/ political families might put them in trouble, so be it, why not, if they are also thieves get them as well. But if these representatives of Family Nawaz (who enjoy all the power and pelf at our cost and pretend being our representatives!) are suggesting that because others might also be hiding their crimes therefore the ones already caught should be let go without being penalised for their crimes. No, no, no, enough is enough let's make an example of these thugs first, rest can be dealt with the precedent this creates.

I sympathized with PML-N because Sharifs have been singled out. Why not everyone should be held accountable. General Musharraf did not appear a single day in court and he was allowed to leave. Imran Khan for the last two years has not submitted any information ECP has requested. Why Sharifs have been targeted. It appears there is a conspiracy to topple their government. However; PML-N should wait and see what seen JIT findings and the decision of the Supreme Court. it is a little premature to talk about it.

Supreme Court should take Suo Moto of this press conference which is contempt of court. They are basically doubting the supreme court sanctioned JIT. As very rightly stated in above comments that it is only supreme court who can accept or reject the findings. These clowns should be sent behind bars and next step of accountability should start from them.

It is strange ! If the ruling Family was innocent it would be looking forward to the findings of the JIT With great expectaions but it seems it looks forward With great trepidations. Suddenly the Qatari Prince has become the proverbial Third umpire whose evidence has become a must because it favours the People under scrutiny.It seems the end justifies the means employed. If the ruling Family wins fair enough and if it loses then it is a victim of conspiracy and not justice. Why this sudden rude awakening when the porter has been knocking at the door all the time?

@Khurram Pakistan is such a great democracy and it's government has always been the least corrupt in the world. Whether this case is for this or that reason, a sitting prime minister when can be brought to be questioned some politics will be there.
Luckily for Pakistan there has happened something, maybe if there was no military influence this case would have been already over. So some hope for Pakistan must be there . Lets hope whatever the truth is will come to the fore, and Pakistani public will know the truth.
