ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Water level in Simly Dam is constantly decreasing due to less rains in the catchment area of the dam.
When contacted, the water supply directorate official said: “It is a natural phenomena that rain in the catchment area of Simly Dam is very low which can create problems for regular supply to the residents.”
According to sources, water level in Simly Dam had decreased from 2,290 to 2,277 feet, and it would further lower if insignificant rainfall continued in the catchment areas.
He said monsoon season had yet not passed and hopefully five to six heavy rains might occur in the near future in the dam’s catchment area.
So far the Capital Development Authority is releasing 42 million gallons of water from Simly while seven mgd from Khanpur Dam, tubewells 24, augmentation six and other sources 4mgd of water.
He said despite odds, the authority was striving hard to ensure regular and sufficient supply of drinking water to the citizens of all sectors.
He appealed to the residents of Islamabad to cooperate with the CDA in conservation of the available quantity of water by ensuring that the underground/overhead water tanks in the houses do not overflow.—APP
