HYDERABAD, Aug 8: Referring to frequent deaths of patients during operations in the district, the Hyderabad District Council on Thursday demanded that the people should be allowed to file suits against doctors so that they could be held accountable.

Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi tabled a resolution in this regard, saying those serving in the health sector were supposed to be more responsible than others as it was a sensitive field.

He deplored that negligence in routine operations at hospitals had become an everyday matter but no action was taken against doctors conducting the operations.

He said the government should look into such issues and adopt necessary measures so that the lives of the people could be saved.

The council also adopted the resolution of Syed Haider Ali Shah seeking completion of the Matiari bypass.

He said the bypass passed through Saeedabad, Hala and other areas but Matiari was ignored. He demanded conversion of the bypass in dual carriage to provide protection to the people of Matiari. He said due to the absence of a dual carriage, two bus stands had been established in Matiari which was causing difficulties to people.

He further said following enforcement of Motorway rules on the National Highway, fares had been increased by transporters which should be regulated by the Motorway police.

He said for the last three months charging of half fare from students had been stopped in buses plying between Hyderabad and Matiari.

Labour councillor Rana Mehmood Ali Khan’s resolution demanding amendments to the Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002, was also passed by the district council.

Mr Khan said the IRO, 2002, was promulgated in haste and it contained anti-workers provisions.

He said the 2002 IRO had put curbs on trade unions and made the system of labour courts more complicated as labour appellate tribunals were done away with and their powers vested in high courts. He said the powers of the National Industrial Relations Court were also curtailed.

Ghulam Haider Khoso demanded establishment of oil refinery at the Tando Alam Khan Mari oil field.

He said in 1985 the Oil and Gas Development Corporation had purchased 80 acres of land for setting up of oil refinery but it was established in Multan. He said it was a great injustice with people of the area who were deprived of employment.

The resolution was unanimously adopted.

The district council also passed the resolution of Lala Zahid Pathan regarding Goth Bhaley Shah in union council-17 of Tando Allahyar.

The resolution called for proprietary rights to residents of the village and withdrawal of what it called false cases against them.
