After Pakistan's Champions Trophy success earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hoping the Sri Lankan cricket team will tour the country for one day internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 matches near the end of this year, news agency APP has reported quoting a PCB official.

Dawn.com's own sources said that talks over a possible series are ongoing but nothing is official as yet.

“Our Sri Lankan counterparts have expressed willingness in sending their team to Pakistan as the security situation is improving in the country,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying.

The official said the Lankan side may tour Pakistan in November or December.

APP quoted the official as saying that matches between the two teams would likely be held only in Lahore. He said that the host country will be providing high-profile security to the Sri Lankan team along the lines of the security provided to foreign players for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final earlier this year.

"The PSL final has proved a great breakthrough in reviving international cricket in Pakistan,” the official said.

He also recalled that a World XI team will be touring Pakistan in September, which will include players from Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
