KARACHI: An activist of the outlawed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was shot dead and his friend wounded in a targeted attack apparently on sectarian grounds in Korangi Industrial Area, police said on Saturday.
They said that Hafiz Adnan and Ashraf were returning home from Saddar on a motorbike late on Friday night when armed pillion riders fired at them near the Korangi Crossing area.
Both men sustained serious bullet wounds and were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced Adnan dead. Ashraf was admitted to the health facility for treatment.
Korangi Industrial Area SHO Aijaz Soomro said that it appeared to be a targeted attack on sectarian grounds.
An ASWJ spokesperson said that the victim was a local leader of the party in Korangi.
Meanwhile, the Korangi Industrial Area police have registered an FIR (470/2017) against two unknown suspects under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 on a complaint of the wounded, Ashraf.
