LAHORE: Storms and widespread rains, heavy at places, in most parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir on Wednesday claimed at least eight lives.

Moist currents from the Arabian Sea, which are penetrating upper and central parts of the country, and a westerly wave are giving the first pre-monsoon rains and windstorms since Monday.

According to reports, three labourers died after the roof of a dilapidated house caved in along Lahore’s Raiwind Road.

A Lahore Metropolitan Corporation worker was electrocuted. Four people, including children, were injured as the roof of their house fell on them in Green Town.

A man and his son were killed after they were buried under the rubble of a wall of a private school in Ahmadpur Sial.

In Samasatta, a woman died after the roof of her house collapsed. Two other women were injured.

In Mandi Bahauddin, the roof of an under-construction house fell during rain, killing a labourer. Three other people were injured in a similar incident in the city.

The driver of a truck was injured after the vehicle plunged into a ravine during heavy rain in Azad Kashmir.

Rain, dust storms and thundershower with gusty winds occurred in scattered places in Punjab, Kashmir, Quetta, Hazara, Peshawar, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain was also reported in Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Vehari, Attock and parts of Azad Kashmir.
