HYDERABAD, Aug 7: The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) has decided to award Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Award for the year of 2002 to Banhon Khan Shaikh on his book “Shah Jo Risalo” (volume-III).

The decision to this effect was unanimously taken here on Thursday at the meeting of the PAL award committee, presided over by Mazharul Haq Siddiqui and attended by Dr Abdul Jabbar Junejo, Imdad Hussaini, Dr Fehmida Hussaini and Agha Noor Mohammad Pathan.

The meeting also discussed the revision of the Latif award amount, observing that the PAL had already revised the payment of awards on books in Urdu and regional languages but the payment of the Shah Latif Award had not yet been revised.

It unanimously recommended to the PAL that the payment of the Shah Latif Award should be increased from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000.

The meeting also recommended that the translation work of Shah Latif’s verses may also be included for consideration of the Shah Latif Award.
