CHINIOT: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ayub Khan inaugurated on Tuesday the extension block of the Chiniot District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Under the project, the 200-bed hospital got 25 more beds.

Medical Superintendent Dr Munir Ahmad said the hospital treated 1,700 outpatients every day. The hospital was upgraded from the tehsil headquarters in 2009 when Chiniot was upgraded to district status.

Also, the district government has constructed a pharmacy, a medicine store, a waiting area and an outdoor ticket area in the hospital. Helping Hands, an international non-profit organisation, donated furniture and equipments worth Rs20 million for the hospital.

Under the extension project, 10 beds were added to the emergency department, 10 to gynae and five beds to delivery wards besides an operating theatre.

DC Khan said that Punjab government has been focusing on health facilities and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif recently visited Chiniot and inspected only the hospital. He said 12 specialist doctors would also join the hospital in the coming days.
