HYDERABAD, Aug 6: Judge Syed Ali Ashraf Shah of the Anti- Terrorism Court (ATC) awarded life imprisonment to five accused in a kidnapping for ransom case on Tuesday.

Ghulam Hussain, Ashraf, Gul Sher, Chanesar and Ghulam Mustafa were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs50,000 each under section 365-A PPC. In case of non-payment of fine, they will have to undergo another one year term.

The court also sentenced them to 14-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs50,000 under sections 353 and 324 PPC. In case of failure, they will have to serve another one year term.

The Judge acquitted the co-accused, Nangar Malkani, Rasolo Malkani and Dhano Malkani, giving them benefit of doubt.

The case was lodged at the Bhitshah police station on Feb 1, 2002 on the complaint of Gagan Das whose son, Rajesh Kumar, was kidnapped. Rajesh was rescued by the police after an encounter.

PPP: A younger brother of Maula Bux Chandio, the deputy general secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party, Sindh, was killed in an accident on Monday night.

Zameer Hussain Chandio, 45, son of Juma Khan Chandio, was hit by a vehicle on the Hyderabad bypass. He was employed at the orthopaedic ward of the civil Hospital.

DROWNED: Two boys drowned in the Phulelli canal on Tuesday in the jurisdiction of Baldia police station. The bodies of Rashid, son of Gul Mohammad, and Ghulam Abbas, son of Ghulam Rasool, were recovered. Both were the residents of the Barrage colony.

FOUND DEAD: A Karachi resident, Mohammad Saleem, son of Habibullah, was found dead in a hotel where he was staying for the last one and half month.

The Fort police removed his body to the civil hospital for autopsy. Saleem was under treatment of a doctor near the hotel.
