QUETTA, Aug 5: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Nauraiz Shakoor will formally inaugurate Saindak copper gold project at Saindak, some 650 km off here, on Wednesday.

The project has already started production on trial basis. Besides, 15800 tons of copper, 1.47 tons of gold and 276 ton of silver and 30,000 tons of Iron would be produced per year. The project would help save Rs2.5 billion annually.

A 50-mega watt powerhouse has been set up to meet the energy requirement of the mill. Railway authorities have laid 35 km long railway line to link the mill site with Taftan for cheap and steady transportation of the mill products to market. The government has leased the project to China’s Metallurgical Construction Company (MCC), the builder of the project.

Over 750 people have been provided jobs in the project. —APP
