Champions Trophy: Wahab suffers minor injury

LAHORE: Fast bowler Wahab Riaz has suffered a slight injury on his left knee, as per the spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“The pacer has slightly injured upper muscle of his left knee which has been bandaged as a precautionary measure,” maintained the PCB spokesperson while talking to Dawn from Birmi­n­gham where Pakistan is busy practicing ahead of their high-octane Champ­ions Trophy match against archrivals India.

The spokesman for the Board stated that there was no serious problem with Wahab, adding that the pacer did not need to undergo medical test for his knee injury at the moment.

“Wahab has not gone through MRI or other related medical tests as nothing looks serious. But if there is any complication, decision will be taken accordingly,” remarked the spokesman who said the pacer exercised in gym but did not bowl as the ground was wet.

Wahab Riaz has so far been an expensive bowler and has had no impact in warm up matches. I do not know why he is still considered as a threat to opposing batsmen.

Whether fit or unfit Wahab should not be selected in the team agsinst India. Wahab is not a good bowler.

@The_Truth what kind of a logic is this? If he is not good why is he selected on the first place? Edgbaston, Birmingham has been a batting paradise, look at the last warm up match between NZ & SL, both teams scored in excess of 350..... Even 400 looks unsafe on that track.... Cant blame the bowlers.... Whatever happens on the 4th.... One thing is guaranteed.... It will be a very high scoring game with India having the upper hand both with bat and ball... Mr Inzamam. Please send this squad vs India. Since batting is Pakistan's biggest weakness we should play more all-rounders down the order. Fortunately for Pakistan team no player is really so great a player that he would be missed. so one or two injuries and changes won't really matter and effect the chances of the team.

I watched the Pakistan vs Bangladesh game and he was struggling with his Knee and was even struggling to complete his overs so I am surprised to see the that it happens during the practice. If he is struggling with Knee then better send him back and call a replacement as soon as possible as no point keeping him here in the UK.

Sir Fast bowling without change of pace or swing is going to be very expensive. This is what is happening with Wahab Riaz at the moment. He neither has swing, nor deadly Yorker or a slower delivery to mix up. As a result the faster he delivers the quicker it goes over the fence for plenty of runs and then he also over steps resulting in plenty of no balls. It is too late to invest in Wahab Riaz and instead a youngster should be given chance to play
