NEW DELHI: China on Monday asked India to be “cautious” and exercise “restraint” over building infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, days after a bridge that links it to neighbouring Assam was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NDTV said.
China claims Arunachal Pradesh as South Tibet. India has repeatedly rejected that stand, asserting that the border state is an integral part of India.
“We hope India adopts a cautious and restrained attitude on the issue before the final settlement of the border issue with China to jointly control disputes, safeguard peace and tranquillity in the border areas,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry told news agency IANS.
“China’s position on the eastern section of the Sino-Indian border areas is consistent and clear,” a statement in Chinese said.
Mr Modi last week opened the country’s longest bridge over the Brahmaputra river that connects Assam’s easternmost region with Arunachal Pradesh.
The 9.2 km Dhola-Sadiya bridge will cut the distance and travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by 165 km and five hours.
The bridge, built to accommodate tanks, will ensure swift movement of Indian troops in Arunachal Pradesh which will bolster India’s defence along the China border.
Last month, China protested strongly to the Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh. Beijing considers the 81-year old spiritual leader a separatist. India said the visit was to promote religious harmony and had no political colouring. The Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising that was crushed by Chinese troops, trekked through the Himalayas and entered India through Arunachal Pradesh.

The 9.15 km bridge will reduce the travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from six hours to just one hour as the distance will shrink by 165 km.If china builds roads in disputed area between other two countries its a commercial project aimed at improving people’s lives but if India does the same in arunachal its an issue. why these Double standard.Dont forget india successfully settles 41-year-old border issue with Bangladesh with total 111 border enclaves was transferred to Bangladesh in exchange for 51 that will become part of India.

All of Asia belongs to India apparently. They haven't accepted Pakistan and they have issues with every other other country that shares border with them and India had history in meddling with policies of other countries just so that they can lay their hands on some more land. I understand that India wants the subcontinent to be restored back to earlier years well before the Mughals but this approach will only damage and destabilize the region further creating more factions and extremists.

Even manufacturing of helicopters and tanks under tie up with Israel will be located near Arunachal Pradesh. So the need of 9.2 km bridge which will cut the distance and travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by 165 km and five hours.
The bridge is for movement of heavy tanks which will bolster India's defence production and create employment for our engineers and others as also bolster GDP growth.

Each ministry of the Central government is required to spend at least 10 per cent of its budget in the Northeast. The Central sector fund for the year 2015-15 was Rs 4,84,532 crore. Therefore, about Rs 48,000 crore was available to the region for various projects.This will continue for few more years.

@aleem No land issues with Bhutan & Nepal. The issue with Bangladesh resolved two years back and that leaves only Pakistan and China on the list. o please do not use such a broad brush to paint it black.

@Ritesh I suppose it is very similar to kashmir. All these are disputed territories which india has not right but keeps illegal occupation. Chinese will take it back one day as they did in case of Hong Kong. It is just a matter of time. Indians also took over muslim states of hyderabad, Junagarh, kashmir and many others by force.

BTW don't get too cocky with China. If China really wanted to it can economically and militarily choke India from all directions. Comparing Arunachal Pradesh with Kashmir is like comparing apples and oranges. CPEC is going thru Pakistan side of Kashmir along the same Karakorum highway built 3 decades back and India had no issues back then. Your dispute in Kashmir is with Pakistan but your dispute in Arunachal Pradesh is directly with China so you need to tread carefully.

@Jingalaala Chinese don't issue warnings just for the sake of it. They are very cautious about the international diplomacy and are fiercely aggressive when it comes to Tibet. Even US does not tread the dragon in Tibet. Indians can high five each other now but wait and see. China has practically surrounded India from Gwadar port to Nepal and Bangladesh. If China really wanted to put a choke hold India won't be able to do squat.

Burma, and also Nepal.On the other hand, China has only good relation with pakistan but very bad with Vietnam, Indonesia, japan, India etc. Pakistan too have bad relation with India, Afghanistan, and even Iran.

@Ravee Just look at FDI in China for the last 5/10/20/30 years and compare with India's FDI the highest in any year or decade and China will shame India.... btw a token warning/terse reminder about building the bridge and Indians are running helter-skelter for the first tree to hide behind convincing themselves and us how great and powerful India is are but China knows India's game in Tibet and India also knows the dire consequences if it crosses China's red line. Does India knows where that line is? It may be right in the middle of that bridge... who knows but it is great fun to know Indian nervousness and how they think deep down about China in awe and fear !!

China does not concern itself with the protocols of unsettled border issues when building CPEC projects in disputed territory. Do look at some of its foreign projects. Displaced poor landholders are still awaiting compensation.
Thinking Chinese must fact check the double standards.

My dear Pakistani friends don't gloat. Be careful with China. There is no real threat to Pakistan from India. It's China we all need to be weary about. No iron or gold brothers in this world. When the crux comes it will have to be India that would be earthen brother to Pakistan. Future in the clutch of China for Pakistan to be careful about.
