SHIKARPUR: Three persons lost their lives and seven others, including two women, sustained bullet wounds when two armed groups traded fire in Mizran Jatoi village of Khanpur tehsil on Sunday.

According to the area police, it was the latest in a series of such violent incidents involving the Saad Khanani Jatoi and and Badani Jatoi sub castes of the Jatoi tribe over the past few years that have already left 15 people dead and scores others wounded.

Officials at the Rustam and Faizo police stations of Shikarpur’s katcha area identified the deceased persons as Saeed and Ismail, belonging to the Saad Khanani Jatoi group, and Nooruddin, belonging to the Badani Jatoi group.

It was learnt that the rival groups clashed early in the morning after one side violently reacted over the other’s act of sharing some information with the police a few years ago.

The seven wounded people were taken to the Khanpur Taluka Hospital, where a post-mortem examination of the three bodies was performed. No FIR was registered till late in the evening.
