THE prime minister’s adviser on civil aviation has sought parliamentarians’ support to ‘shut down’ PIA. It was a shocking suggestion. This is no solution to PIA’s problems. This relates to good governance.

If the National Assembly is not working properly, it does not mean it should be abolished.

PIA has been consistently damaging the country’s image abroad owing to mismanagement and corruption. Mehtab Abbasi doesn’t have any aviation management experience. But, sadly, he is the adviser on civil aviation only because he is a PML-N member.

Pakistan again had to face embarrassment when heroin was recovered from the PIA aircraft after landing at a British airport. Stringent action should be taken against culprits involved.

It is time the government took steps to revive PIA. Golden days of PIA can return only by appointing professional people in the airline.
