CHAKWAL: Two people were gunned down in Maira Thirchak village while a woman was shot dead by her husband in Chakwal city, police said on Tuesday.

An old enmity, which has already claimed four lives recently, took the lives of two more people in Maira Thirchak village located in Kallar Kahar police area, police said on Tuesday.

Police have registered a case against two dozen accused of both groups but no arrest has been made yet.

The enmity began in 1979 when Chaudhry Ghulam Ali was gunned down along with his friend Ghulam Abbas of Bhoun village by Faiz Ali Shah and his brother-in-law Mohammad Bashir over a petty dispute.

Both the accused were jailed and freed some eight years ago.

After the death of Ghulam Ali his widow was married to his younger brother Ghulam Mehdi who got two sons from his wife. The two sons grew up hearing the story of the brutal murder of their uncle Chaudhry Ghulam Ali.

On August 2 last year they avenged the murder of their uncle allegedly by killing Mohammad Bashir and his nephew Tariq Hussain in Kallar Kahar.

Both are currently in jail facing the trial while police absolved one of them of the charges.

“This feud would take more lives if remedial measures are not taken up,” says a notable of the area.

In another incident a husband shot his wife dead over a legal battle.

The woman had filed a case against her husband seeking divorce. On Monday evening the accused gunned down her wife and presented him before police.
