FAISALABAD, Aug 3: Despite his transfer by the Punjab government 10 days ago, the District Police Officer, Zafar Abbas Lak, is issuing written orders about transfer and posting of subordinates besides taking disciplinary action against them.

In a recent order, the DPO appointed inspector Saifullah Bhatti as SHO, Sadar police station. Mr Bhatti was facing suspension for his alleged involvement in a case of receiving kickbacks for releasing four local traders and call girls.

The SP (city) has already terminated the services of four constables in the same case. In another order, Mr Lak also suspended from service seven policemen — Jhang Bazaar SHO Rana Obaidur Rehman, Gulfishan Colony police post in charge Mudassar Nawaz; ASI Bashir Ahmed and constables Tariq, Saleem, Shakeel and Ghulam Mustafa for torturing an accused to death.

Muhammad Amin Bhatti was later made Jhang Bazaar SHO in place of SI Obaidur Rehman.

Similarly, inspector Ghulam Akbar Sial has been appointed as Lundianwala SHO while inspector Khuda Yar has been posted as Jaranwala SHO. SI Shahid Gujjar has been transferred from Jaranwala and posted as SHO, Mamukanjan. SI Tauseef Ahmed has been posted as the Gulfishan Colony post head while SI Bashir Ahmed has been transferred from D-Type Colony PS and handed over the charge Chak 30 police post.

Sources said the transferred DPO had also issued a number of orders related to departmental procedure. However, the accounts section of the Faisalabad police has refused to accept an order of the DPO about the temporary posting of a cook and a watchman, saying the same could be implemented after the cancellation of DPO’s transfer orders.

“Any officer after the receipt of his transfer orders could not pass orders about postings, transfers, disciplinary action and other departmental procedures,” a senior police official commented.

LAID TO REST: Barrister Raja Sher Muhammad was laid to rest in his native village Rajawala on Sunday afternoon.

His body reached Faisalabad from London at noon. Politicians, bureaucrats, civil, military and judicial officers, members of the national and provincial assemblies, lawyers, journalists and people belonging to cross sections of society attended the funeral prayers.

He was a former president of the Faisalabad District Bar Association, and father of PPP MPA Raja Riaz Ahmed and PIA pilot Raja Sher Ahmad.
