PESHAWAR, Aug 3: Several parts of NWFP experienced major power breakdown after Water and Power Development Authority’s electricity distribution system at Mardan developed some fault late on Saturday night.

According to a press release issued here on Sunday by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) — a subsidiary of Wapda — Mardan grid station’s 160 MVA transformer developed a technical fault as a result of which several parts of Mardan districts, Charsadda and Swat plunged into darkness.

After several hours electricity supply was partially restored to the affected parts from alternative sources.

The restoration work, the press release said, was likely to be completed in four days and during this period Pesco would have to suspend power supply to areas being provided electricity from Wapda’s grid stations at Mardan, Charsadda, Swat, Chakdarra, Swabi, Tangi, Shabqadar, Ghalanai, Jamrud and Landi Kotal.

Pesco’s chief executive Brig Tahir Saeed Malik, according to the press release, has constituted special teams to carry out essential repair works to restore power distribution from the Mardan grid station.

Meanwhile, several parts in the Haripur district suffered suspension of power after the Haripur grid station’s major cable developed fault due to over loading at around 1pm. The press release added that power supply was fully restored after three hours at around 4pm.
