The Afghan Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) was summoned on Wednesday by the Foreign Office to lodge a protest over the incident in which two Pakistani diplomatic officials were detained in Kabul, reportedly by Afghan security agencies.

The Foreign Office said in a statement that the Afghan DHM was conveyed that the incident was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations (1961).

The office declared the detention against the spirit of the brotherly relations between the two countries.

"It was emphasised that such incidents undermined the constructive engagement which the two countries envisaged for the strengthening of bilateral ties," said the statement.

"We urge the Afghan government to take immediate steps to ensure the security and safety of our diplomatic personnel and premises and to ensure that such incident does not take place in future," it said.

"incident was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations (1961)."

Great now it is time for Pakistan to go for ICJ! I am sure diplomatic staff were on a brotherly activities to support strategic depth of Afghan government !

"Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations (1961)." "spirit of the brotherly relations" " constructive engagement " "strengthening of bilateral ties," Don't you think, the above words coming from Pakistan look a bit strange and odd??

Now they remember Vienna Convention, and rules of engagements !

Ashish May 18, 2017 01:50am

Thought Vienna conventions were not recognized by Pakistan...

In the end, we will be responsible for Afghanistan and keep it protected from predators trying to intrude with masked face. We all know who that is.

Ravo May 18, 2017 03:12am

Go to ICJ?

Mike London May 18, 2017 04:34am

@Alba , I second that motion.

Akil Akhtar May 18, 2017 04:34am

Will we continue to lodge protests over all these aggressive and uncivilised actions against Pakistan. No wonder a minnow like Afghanistan is not afraid of Pakistan anymore....

Afghan intelligence agencies are looking for more trouble between the two countries, nothing more. They are the core reason for bad relations between the two countries.

Simple solution, shut the border and send all the refuges back till they release our men, enough of brotherly love
